It's
free and it is fun to be a Democratic Committeeman or Committeewoman,
and it's good for our country. You will be the male or female
Democratic representative, otherwise known as "Precinct
Captain," for your precinct within the County Democratic
Party. Your name will be on the ballot August 26, 2008, unless
you are unopposed.
As
elected Committeewoman or Committeeman, your vote will be
counted in the County Democratic Executive Committee (DEC)
organizational meeting election in December, 2008. According
to Democratic bylaws, only elected members of the County Committee
are eligible to hold office within the party or to vote for
Officers at that organizational meeting. The County Committee
(e.g., the Broward County Democratic Executive Committee)
is the same thing as the (e.g., Broward) County Democratic
Party.
In
your election for Committeeman or Committeewoman on August
26, 2008, all Democrats in your precinct may vote for you
along with other official candidates running for other local
and state offices. If you are opposed for Committeemember
your name will be on the ballot, along with your opponents,
and you may campaign for your neighbors' votes. The winner(s)
will be decided by plurality for the positions Committeewoman
and Committeeman. If you are unopposed then your name will
not be on the ballot and you will be elected without opposition.
Some precincts which are large (more than 1000 registered
Democrats) have 2 positions for Committeeman and 2 positions
for Committeewoman.
